How a Beercycle night goes

    Book your city

    A whole bike for your crew, or seats on a public tour where you meet everyone else. Pick a date and time on the live calendar and pay. Done.

    Meet at the first bar

    Good George in Auckland, Dux Central in Christchurch, 1876 in Queenstown. Turn up 15 minutes early with ID, drink money and shoes you can pedal in.

    Pedal, stop, repeat

    Your driver steers. You pedal, play your songs on the speaker and roll between three or four bars, each with a deal set up for Beercycle riders. Two hours later you are back where you started, louder than you left.

Pick your city

One bike seats 15 riders. Auckland has two bikes, so a group of up to 30 can book both and ride together, 15 on each. Christchurch and Queenstown have one bike each, so 15 riders at most. Public seats put you on the bike with other crews, and the tour runs once enough seats are sold. Prices are in New Zealand dollars and include your driver, the bike and two hours; a card fee is added at checkout.

Built for the night you have to get right

A stag or hen do where the whole group actually stays together. A birthday nobody will confuse with last year’s dinner. A work do that people talk about on Monday. Or a Saturday in a new city with a few mates and no plan. The bike does the icebreaking: strangers wave, cars honk, and by the second bar everyone on board is a friend.

One bike in Auckland, 2016

Nick Wilson saw pedal bars on a trip overseas and figured New Zealand needed one. He put the first bike on the road in Auckland in 2016. Christchurch followed in early 2017, and in 2025 Queenstown, where the bike now rolls past the lake with the Remarkables behind it.

Nearly ten years on, the idea has not changed. Not a party bus: you pedal it yourselves, and the driver knows which bars to stop at.

Can we drink on the bike?

No. The drinking happens at the stops, where each bar has a deal set up for Beercycle riders. That is what keeps it a pub crawl rather than a party bus, and it is what keeps the bike road legal.

How many people fit on?

Up to 15 riders a bike. Ten seats have pedals, two sit above the back wheels and three share the bench along the back. Auckland has two bikes, so a crew of up to 30 can book both for the same tour; Christchurch and Queenstown have one bike each. Your driver steers, and when a tour needs it a host rides in the middle to run the music and keep the energy up.

How old do riders need to be?

18. Bring valid photo ID, because every stop is a licensed bar.

What is the cancellation policy?

Bookings are non-refundable. Cancel 7 days or more before your tour and you get a free rain check for later in the year, time subject to availability. Within 6 days we deal with it case by case, and a date change fee may apply.
